Q3. Do you agree to host?

This is a data for the question, "Do you agree to host the Olympics in Japan?" answered by Japanese people.
Red and orange represents "agree", blue and green means "disagree", and yellow represents "neither".
We can see that about half of the people agree to host the Olympics and one quarter of the people disagrees. According to the survey, people who live in suburban areas tend to answer "neither". Also, people who live or who have lived in Tokyo tend to agree for hosting the Olympics.

Q2. Do people in the damaged areas agree to host the Olympics in Japan?

Ofcourse, there are opinions and views for any kind of controversy topics. Therefore, I could not find an accurate number of people who agree or not, but according to the Fukushima city official Hiroaki Kuwajima, “We are still in the process of recovery from the disaster, and it would be a dream to have world-class athletes play here,”
We can see that there are people who are looking forward.

Q1. How would the Olmpics affect the recovery of the damaged areas in Japan?

The Olympics will affect Japan in numerous ways. Economy, people, land.

The results suggest that the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games will have positive effects in terms of public relations for industry, but will not stimulate industry as much as the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games did. Despite this conclusion, systems promoting a collaboration-based economy, such as the Legacy Trust set up for the London Olympic Games and the ‘somewhereto_’ initiative supported by the Trust, are considered to be compatible with Japan’s civic culture and the country’s strength in bottom-up management systems. It is desirable to create a series of economic activities by filling the gaps between mainstream culture, high culture, and subcultures and the gap between Tokyo and non-metropolitan regions. Linking different fields as well as different regions will be important in having the Tokyo Olympic Games lead to national-level activities.

Q4. The big influence on the economy in Japan: good or bad?

The simple answer will be: the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 have the big influence on the economy in Japan, but whether the influence on Japan will be good or bad depends on the position in the society and the situation.

According to the Tokyo Olympics Association, they think that we should hold the Olympics and Paralympics not only for the sports festival but also for the opportunity to develop the economy and technology more largely, especially in Tokyo as one of the most biggest business city. Also, the Tokyo Olympics bring all over Japan the big economic effort. Actually, the level of economy in Japan is lower in the developed countries and there are economic disparities which depends on the population concentration in the city and the development of the aging in the countryside. In addition, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government predicted that the economic effects by the Tokyo Olympics will be 3 trillion dollars and the Institute for Urban Strategies thought that in January in 2015 it predicted  the economic effects to be ¥19.4 trillion and it is called "dream effect". Hiroo Ichikawa, an executive member of the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies thinks that this "dream effect is big and this effect and the flourished events will be seen in every city which has won hosting the Olympic Games. So from these perspectives, through the Tokyo Olympics we can expect the good influence on Japan.

On the other hand, there are some opinions which think that Olympics give us the bad influence on economy in Japan. Although there are some researches which found that The Olympic boost contributes to growing evidence of economic recovery with annual GDP growth of about 4 per cent, the Olympic Games demands for remarkable amounts of investment of the government. Especially, Japan is now the indebt and recession country so in spite of this situation there is the difficulty investing such the amounts of money.

Also, there are some ideas which thought that there is little impact on the economy in Japan.
According to the Securities company Nomura, it estimates that the influence on Japan by the Tokyo  Olympics will be 0.5 per cent of GDP which is very little change.

As for the two sources, the former is the Mr. Matsutani's article and the latter is the Simon Read's article, I thought that these are very reliable.
In terms of the former one, I found that this article mainly described on the points which agree with the good effects caused by the Tokyo Olympics with the statistics and in very detail.
As for the latter one, there are both the pros and cons of the Tokyo Olympics from the economic perspectives. This article also described in detail about the cons of the Tokyo Olympics in terms of the economy, with using the statistics of GDP.

Although it was difficult to search for the information which is related to the economy with very little knowledge, I found that there is the clear evidence of both sides: agree with the Tokyo Olympics or not. To consider the Tokyo Olympics from the point of view of economy, we should know much more about the present economic situation in Japan. From these statistics, I think that although it is very small, there are somewhat influence on the Japanese economy through the Tokyo Olympics so I think that Japan should host the Tokyo Olympics to flourish Japan in terms of economy.

Q3. The priority between showing the recovery from the earthquake or concentrating on the complete recovery

The simple answer is: it depends on the situation because there are the clear evidences both to show the recovery from the earthquake and to concentrate on the complete recovery.

First, let's look at the reasons for being prior to host the Tokyo Olympics to show the recovery from the earthquake.
Through the Tokyo Olympics, we can take over the bond of the minds of the people who lives in disaster area with the damaged area. According to the journal of the Tokyo 2020 Action and Legacy Plan 2016 Interim Report(Japanese site), Japan was supported from all over the world after the big earthquake in Tohoku area in 2011. So through the Olympics we can show the aspect of recovered Tohoku area and the effort to deal with the recovery and we can thank for the supports from the foreign countries. According to the bid president Tsunekazu Takeda, he said like this in 2012 "thanks to all of those people." who helped Japan in 2011. Actually, in 1940, Japan planned to hold the Tokyo Olympics to show the recovery from the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923 but because of the WWⅡ, Olympics was not be held. Like this, the Tokyo Olympics Association claims that there is the strong relationship between the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and to showing the recovery from the earthquake. Also, one of the themes of the Tokyo Olympics is: restoration from the Tokyo Olympics.

Second, we will look at the reasons for being prior to host the Tokyo Olympics to concentrate on the complete recovery.
There are some opinions which concerns with the moderating of the recovery from the Tokyo Olympics. According to the reconstrucion agency, although the recovery of hard aspect is on-going in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima, the whole aspects of the recovery is halfway through. For example, the road and the disposal of disaster wastes are almost finished but the recovery of fisheries is not completely finished, about 30 percent. Although there are some ideas to think that the dealing with the nuclear plant in Fukushima is manageable, the disposal of the nuclear plant is still under control. According to the attorney, Toru Ino, he says in his blog that it is strange to think that the Tokyo Olympics will lead to show the recovery from the Earthquake in 2011 as if the recovery from the earthquake is all completed even the recovery is finished in only "City", in spite of the unfinished condition of the decontamination.
So, from this point of view, there are some opinions which concerns the delay or unfinished recovery from the earthquake.

As for the 3 resources, I thought that these are very reliable because all of the sources describe the real situation which is related to Tokyo Olympics in 2020. As for the Dumbar's article, there is the description by the bid presidents in 2012, which is the previous year of decision to hold the Olympics in Tokyo. Although it is a very simple article, it describes the evidence to hold the Olympics clearly.

In terms of the Matanle's article, most of the parts of this article is the opinion which disagrees with holding the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Not only from the prejudiced position but also from the both pros and cons position this issue is explained.

Finally, as for the blog by the attorney from Hokkaido, Toru Ino, it describes the reasons for disagreeing with hosting the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 with very strong evidences. I thought that he focuses on the recovery from the earthquake in 2011 with very strict eyes.

At last, I found that there are a lof of opinions for agreeing and disagreeing with the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. To hold the Tokyo Olympics with concerning with the recovery from the earthquake in 2020, we should think of the minds of people who lives in damaged area and the government should keep on dealing with recovery from the Great East Earthquake in 2011.

Q2. Whether Tokyo Olympic can show the recovery from the big earthquake in Tohoku area or not

Although there are some opinions which disagrees to hold the Tokyo Olympics in terms of the delay of the recovery from the East Great Earthquake in 2011, the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 will be able to show the recovery from the big earthquake in Tohoku area.

According to the Prime Minister Abe, he said that the Tokyo Olympic in 2020 will provide us the impulse to recovery from the big disaster and to speed up the recovery of it.

Through the Tokyo Olympic, Japan can give the spectators the big impression and this positive atmosphere can support the continuous recovery from the earthquake. In addition, according to the Tokyo 2020 Action and Legacy Plan 2016,Tokyo Olympic can appeal the big role of the sports to support the mind of the victims of the big earthquake in Tohoku area and it became the a spiritual enlightenment of this thought.

Also, not only in 2020 but also in the Rio De Janeiro Olympics in 2016 Japan can send the condition of the recovery from the Earthquake and the fascination of Japan through the advertisement of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 through the videos and the pictures.

In addition, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan, what Japan can tell all over the world through the Olympics are(the quotes from the site: http://www.bousai.metro.tokyo.jp/foreign/_res/projects/gaikokugo/_page_/002/000/284/14.pdf)

・Recovery efforts and conditions since the Great East Japan Earthquake
・Recovery support through the power of sports

Furthermore, according to the Japanese Cabinet, by promoting more initiatives for the disaster area through the Tokyo Olympics, Japan will attract more attention from the athletes and spectators from foreign countries and can facilitate the cooperative initiatives with the disaster area to show and to help the recovery from the earthquake and to show the condition of recovery which is currently happening from the disaster.


As for the article from the Mackay, D who is the editor of insidethegames.biz and the provisional journal from the Japanese Cabinet, I thought that these two sources are also reliable as the site of Tokyo Metropolitan and the Tokyo 2020 which are described in the Question 1. As for the former, this site focuses on the sports and this site strongly reflected what the Prime Minister said and described the reasons for agreeing with holding the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and I thought that this site sees the good points of Tokyo Olympics from many perspectives which I had not expected. In terms of the latter one, this provisional journal is the very official one and it describes the governmental policy for the Tokyo Olympics in detail and very clearly. In this journal, there is not the comment on the opinions which disagrees with holding the Tokyo Olympics but it describes "how" the government should do in order to hold the safety and attractive Tokyo Olympics in 2020. After I read this article, I found that this site persuade us to recognize the pros of holding the Tokyo Olympics, although there are some cases which makes it difficult to hold the Tokyo Olympics, such as the economical problem or the delay of the recovery from the Great East Earthquake in 2011.
That's why I thought these articles are reliable and trustworthy.

Q1. The connection between the Tokyo Olympic and the recovery from the earthquake

The answer will be: Holding the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 connects with communicating to the world about the recovery from the earthquake in 2011.
Through the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, many people can see not only the recovery directly but also the knowledge about the big disaster by looking the recovery from the earthquake in Japan. Although there are various kinds of the disaster in Japan because Japan is the country which has a lot of earthquake and the natural disaster, the Great East Earthquake in 2011 is one of the most well-known disasters in Japan.
From this big disaster, not only Japanese but also the people around the world can learn the disaster, and the Tokyo Olympic provide people around the world the prevention and the way to reduce the damage caused by the big earthquake.

Also, through the Olympic, Japan try to let children do more exercise and improve their physical fitness and promote to grow up children who will carry the disaster area in the future through the interaction with the foreigners through Olympics.

In addition, not only before and the time which has Tokyo Olympics, but also after the Olympics, Japan can try to prevent the people around the world from forgetting the big earthquake in Tohoku area and having the reputational risks.

I think that the two sources below is very trustworthy because both of the site are the official sites from the Tokyo Metropolitan or The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Both of the sources have the clear evidence which agrees with holding the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 from many perspectives. Also, I thought that there are a lot of connection between the Tokyo Olympics and the recovery from the Great East Earthquake in 2011 than I had expected, such as: Tokyo Olympic helps children promote their physical fitness and so on. In addition, most of the information in the sources is so reliable and in detail. That's why I chose these two resources from the Internet.

Recent News Stories related to the pros and cons to host the Tokyo Olympic in 2020

Hello!
Today I am going to share the recent (but a little historical: about 2-3 years ago because most of the news stories which are related to the pros and cons to host the Tokyo Olympic in 2020 directly) news stories which are related to Tokyo Olympic in 2020.



All the three articles describe the opinions to host the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. The common point which are described is the effects to show the recovery from the big earthquake in Tohoku area and the both good and bad points. However, the perspectives to describe the news are a little different from each news stories.

    

 In the first article, the main point is the optimistic opinion to hold the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 by the journalist who was at the place where the people who agree to hold the Olympics in Tokyo. However, there is also the description which disagrees to hold Olympic in Tokyo through the direct and subjective interview between the journalist and the friend of him who lives in Fukushima.

 

  In the second article, although it is similar to the first one, the opinions of both for and against are described from the perspective of the third person and more objectively. But in this article, the previous Tokyo Olympic in 1964 and its efforts are also described. The reaction of both the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 and the previous Tokyo Olympics in 1964 are compared. Also, this article also focused on the new stadium and its delay of the construction.

 

  In the third article, the change of the reaction to host the Tokyo Olympic in 2020 is described after a year of the decision to hold the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. In this article the main point is the passive opinion to hold the Tokyo Olympic in 2020. Unlike the other two articles, this article focus on mainly the perspective of the economy problem in Japan.

<Agree>The perspective of the Japanese Government


（Background）


After Tokyo was elected as the place where the summer Olympic in 2020 will be held, Prime Minister described the hope for the Olympic and the future of Japan.


 


              Hello, I'm the representative of the Japanese government. I was very happy for Tokyo to be elected as the place where the summer Olympic in 2020 will be held. We can have the responsibility to hold the safe and secure Olympic in Tokyo because Japan introduce the anti-terrorism policy in the public space.


Also, Tokyo will try to hold the successful Games to thank the world for the support of the earthquake in Tohoku and the tsunami as the symbol of “earthquake disaster reconstruction”.


 


Furthermore, Tokyo Olympic helps Japan recover the economy in Japan or have our own dreams or goals through the unity of the sports. As for the economy recovery, the London 2012 Olympics had also the economic recovery through the Olympic. And we can realize that the sport can solve the problem which cannot be solved just by throwing the money, so the government agreed to found the institution which is related to sports.


 


Also, it is estimated that Olympic in Tokyo may help the improvement of English ability in Japan. The level of the ability to use English in Japan is lower than the other developed countries, so Japan may be able to solve the problem through “English Villages” as the tool to solve this problem by the Olympic in 2020. This Olympic can be the goal to make people achieve their improvement of English skills.


 


Finally, like me, the people who saw the previous Tokyo Olympic in 1964 must be fascinated because older people can see the Olympic in our own country twice. The previous Olympic in Tokyo gave a lot of people the dream and hope so those people also expect to feel the same feeling.


 


Through the Olympic, Japan can also speak to the world and invigorate itself. That’s why I agree with the Tokyo Olympic in 2020. Thank you.

<Disagree> The people who experienced the big earthquake

(Background)

The problem of the nuclear power plant or the earthquake disaster reconstruction was concerned before the invitation. Also, not only the big earthquake influence but also the economy will be concerned.

 

              Although the Japanese government invited and was elected as the place of the Olympic in 2020, I think that this decision is definitely bad. Japan should invest money to recover the Tohoku area and the disposal of the nuclear power plant before the invitation to the Tokyo Olympic. The priority to Tokyo Olympic has the risk of delaying the recovery of the Tohoku area. As the time passes, the lack of the workers will happen.

 

Also, not only the earthquake but also the economy may alternate. The economic benefit caused by the Tokyo Olympic must be unsustainable. For example, in the previous Tokyo Olympic in 1964, after the peak of economy came in this year, the economy started to recess year by year. Tokyo needs to reconstruct the infrastructure whether it is related to the Tokyo Olympics or not.

 

In addition, the risk of the terrorism, the deterioration of the public security and the heavy traffic jams are also concerned. And, the number of the people who speaks English or the interpreters is small compared to the other developed countries. The lack of the place which introduces the barrier-free facilities or the tour guides also have the bad influence on the foreigners who watch the sports in Tokyo Olympics.

 

From these points of view, Japan should be realistic when thinking of the Olympics as the major tools to recover the economy. Japan should prepare in ways which is simple and effective when they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics to keep the economy and the recovery of the disaster area protected and dealt with.

Before the research of the Tokyo Olympic in 2020, we used to think that Japan should hold the Olympic in our country because of the advantage such as promotion of the Japan, or the recovery of the economy.
However, after we researched for the information about the pros and cons of the Tokyo Olympic, we were able to know the additional reason to hold the Olympic that the Tokyo Olympic will be held to show the recovery from the big earthquake in Tohoku area in 2011. Also, according to the representative of the Japanese government, Japan may show the thanks to other country of their help.
In addition, not only to show the recovery from the disaster but also to improve the English skills in Japan with making the Tokyo Olympic as the goal to improve Japanese English ability and to fascinate the older people who have seen the previous Tokyo Olympic in 1964. we did not recognize these points before the research but we think that these points are also important to consider the Tokyo Olympic as the controversial issue.
However, on the other hand, there is also the side which disagrees with the opinion to hold the Tokyo Olympic because of the risk of the terrorism, the business recession and the delay of the recovery of the big earthquake in Tohoku area.
Through such research, we found that the most important thing to think of this issue is which is prior to the decision, to show the recovery from the big disaster or to concentrate on the complete recovery from the big earthquake.
we found that the issue of Tokyo Olympic can be seen from a lot of perspectives to discuss and that's why we are interested in and make it one of the important controversial issues.
